                                                       CHAPTER 18!

FINALE EPISODE…

Isn’t life all vanity? Isn’t everything an illusion? Isn’t all the effort invested a waste of energy and resources? We all thought we were doing it for love, we all thought we were protecting ourselves, we all thought we were doing it for our futures; little  did we know that we are hurting ourselves in one way or the other. Of course, the popular verse of karma is right; “What goes around; comes around!” 

Isaac took a deep breath as he stared at Amir and Austin who had been staring at him with curiosity and shock. “Why are you guys staring at me as if I am some monster or something?” He asked with an angry voice. Austin giggled a little. “It is just so hard to believe that you are Isaac hiding behind someone’s face; that is very ridiculous.” He mocked.

Amir also laughed a little. “So at the end, we are all equal Isaac? I nearly committed suicide thinking that I was a monster. I couldn’t even look you in the face that day when everything happened. Little did we know that you also had a bad side; what a small world.” He said, staring at Isaac. 

Isaac giggled and smiled a little before he adjusted himself. “You see, we all have our different purposes. All I did was to save myself from your evil plan and also to avenge Jane’s death while you guys were being selfish. You guys had a better chance to save us from all these but you decided to let jealousy take over you. We were and will never be the same Amir.” Isaac said, looking at him.

He took a deep breath as he continued talking. “Things wouldn’t have turned out this way if this man over here didn’t lure me into his bad plans. I have no regret doing what I did. Living Kelvin’s life was the best part of my life. At least, I experienced the feeling of having a family and the feeling of being in a real relationship. My only regret was being the tool used to betray the man who loved me for real and I will never forgive you for that.” Isaac said, pointing at Mr. Emmanuel.

Mr. Emmanuel giggled a bit with a smirk on his face. He took a deep breath as he opened his eyes that have been closed for a while. He smiled again while staring into the blank space. “You think I am a monster right? You think I am a bad person right? Just wait till you hear all I did; then you will believe completely that I am not even a human.” He said as he adjusted himself.

He sighed deeply as he continued talking. “I never had regret for all the bad things I did. To be honest, I am proud of myself for doing all I did. My son Kelvin was being stubborn, I wonder if he is even my son in the first place. He will never accept my ideas of extorting from the family’s business. Hence, that is why I have to kill him.” He said with a straight face.

“Are you surprised? Just wait a bit more to be surprised.” He said as he stared at the boys who were staring at him with shocked faces. Mr. Emmanuel laughed a little as he continued talking. “I always had a plan of creating another Kelvin to suit my desires; it’s all thanks to Susan that found you in the prison. I didn’t have plans of keeping you after all these because my plan was to kill you after my mission is successful.” He added looking at Isaac.

Isaac was shocked at this point. He couldn’t believe what he just heard from Mr. Emmanuel. How cruel can this world be? How cruel can people be just to achieve their goals? How cruel can we all be all in the name of protecting ourselves and our interests? He stared at Mr. Emmanuel with rage and hate all over his face. 

At this minute, Isaac sympathized with Kelvin, only God knows what the boy went through having Mr. Emmanuel as his father. He sighed deeply as he leaned back on the wall and closed his eyes. His only wish at this moment is to get a chance to talk to Daniel; at least, he should get to explain to him that his love for him is real and will remain real till the end of time…

FEDERAL HIGH COURT, LAGOS, NIGERIA

“Order. Order…” The chief judge shouted as he hit the gavel on the table in front of him. He sighed deeply as he faced the crowd who were eagerly seated in the court waiting for the judgment. He slowly turned his face to the men who were detained behind the chamber before he sighed again and faced Sarah who was also detained in chains.

He took a deep breath as he took off his glasses for a while and faced the crowd again. “After listening to all statements from the prosecutors and the evidence presented by the lawyers, here is the court’s judgment.” He said as he adjusted himself on his seat and started reading out the judgments.

“Miss Sarah Samson; you are found guilty of rape and murder of Miss Jane Wilson on the 5-July-2015. You are hereby according to section 321 of the Nigerian criminal code sentenced to life imprisonment with hard labor.” He said staring at Sarah who busted into tears.

He slowly turned to Mr. Emmanuel who was having a straight face without fear or regret. The judge took a deep breath as he continued talking. “Mr. Emmanuel, You are being accused of the murder of your son, Kelvin Emmanuel and also fraud among other crimes. Also according to section 321 of the Nigerian criminal code, you are sentenced to death by hanging.” He said, staring at Mr. Emmanuel who closed his eyes as tears dropped from them.

The whole crowd murmured and the judge hit his gavel again. “Austin and Amir; you will be sentenced to five years imprisonment for defamation of character, conspiracy and drug dealing.” The judge sentenced again. Amir was shedding hurtful tears as he stared at the judge while Austin couldn’t control his emotions as he cried out loudly.

The judge took a deep breath as he faced Isaac whose face was down. “Mr, Isaac Olamide; you will be sentenced to a year imprisonment with a fine of one million naira for impersonation of character and also fraud.” He said again as he hit his gavel again and slowly stood up while the whole crowd stood up after him.

Isaac was shedding tears as he faced Daniel from a distance while police moved them to the van; he could see the disappointment written all over Daniel’s face. At this point, he is also disappointed in himself. He knows that there will be no reason that will make Daniel forgive him and that is the only thing he wished for at the moment. He wishes Daniel will forgive him, at least that will make him forgive himself also.

Amir was still crying when Steve walked up to him while he was in the Van. He stared at him for a while before he held his hands. Amir sighed as he wiped off his face. “Look Steve, I know I cannot convince you any longer to forgive me; but I want you to know that among all the lies and pretense, my love for you is real and will always be real. I loved you from the bottom of my heart Steve. And if at all you can’t get back to me, I want you to find a place in your heart and forgive me…” Amir said, staring at Steve who had tears flowing on his face.

Steve quickly covered Amir’s mouth with his hand. “Five years will not be too long to wait for you Amir. I will wait for you and we can continue this by then.” He said as he hugged him tightly…

ONE YEAR LATER…

Grandpa walked into Daniel’s room as usual. He sat beside him on the bed watching how messy the whole place was. He took a deep breath as he faced Daniel who was looking so unkempt and dirty. It has been a year and all he does is lock up himself in the room and cry all day. Grandpa held his hands and massaged them for a while.

“I know the feeling of being betrayed by Daniel. I know how you feel for being played with and lied upon all these while but you can’t continue living like this. You need to accept the reality that Kelvin is dead. You need to move on with your life and find love somewhere else.” Grandpa said, staring at him.

He took a deep breath as he continued talking. “To be honest, even though I noticed Isaac to be fake right from the beginning, I just allowed things to continue flowing because I think life is giving you another chance Daniel. Life is giving you a chance to have a special moment with that special somebody you have always yearned for.” He said, still staring at him.

“I am not asking you to forgive Isaac or take him back. That is totally your right to decide and I will always respect every decision you make. All I want you to know is that Isaac did all he did to avenge his friend and to restore his freedom. He did all he did with a good heart and I honestly respect him for that. It is left for you to move on with your life Daniel.” He said as he slowly stood up and walked to the door.

Daniel was still shedding tears as he stared at grandpa who paused and turned when he reached the door. “Just so you know, it is a year already and I think Isaac will be freed in a week. It will be an honor if you can get him from the prison; if not for anything, do it for the respect of Daniel.” Grandpa said as he walked out of the room…

ONE MONTH LATER…

ISAAC’S POV…

A lot has happened previously in my life which I am speechless about. A lot of things have happened which all I can do is to thank the heavens for them. I can’t even imagine how I can start explaining the miracles that happened in my life…

I was standing by the mirror dressed in my black suits when the door to the room slowly opened. I could see him through the mirror as he slowly walked behind me and hugged me tightly from behind. “Are you ready?” Daniel asked as he sniffed on my neck. I chuckled a bit with a smile on my face. “I can’t wait to get this done with Daniel, and I also feel this isn’t enough to pay back Kelvin for giving me another chance.” I replied, staring at him through the mirror.

He smiled a bit while still hugging me. “Then you should pay him a visit, Isaac, I think you will be able to thank him properly.” He said with a soft voice. I kept quiet for a while as I grabbed his hands and held them tightly. “If all these didn’t happen Dan, what do you think will be our faith? Do you think we can still be lovers?” I asked with a curious face.

Daniel smiled as he slowly turned me over. “I don’t know what that might be, Isaac. I can’t even explain how it would have worked out. All I know is that whether you are Isaac or Kelvin, whether you have his face or yours, I will still fall for you. I am in love with you and not your face Isaac and I will continue to love you no matter what the situation is and regardless of the face you have.” He said, staring at me.

I smiled obviously as he slowly grabbed my hands while we walked out of the house. We drove to the cemetery where Jane and Kelvin were buried. I insisted on burying Kelvin beside Jane because I want to always visit the two important people in my life. I slowly bent down and dropped Kelvin’s diary on his grave as I stepped back a little bit.

“Thank you Kelvin. I am sorry for returning this to you very late but I want you to know that I appreciate living your life. I promise you that I will live the best life for you and I will accomplish all that you have dreamt of together with the man of your dreams. Thank you very much Kelvin.”  I said while standing on his grave.

I slowly turned to Jane’s grave and dropped the bouquet of sunflowers I had with me. I sighed deeply as I stared at the grave for a while. I don’t even have enough words to tell Jane at this moment because I missed every part of life we spent together. “Rest on my sunflower. I will always love you.” I said as tears flowed on my face while Daniel hugged me tightly…

Life is full of tragedies and uncertainties. All the things we do for ourselves end up turning against us. Claire was killed by the man she worked so hard for. Isn’t that the hardest truth to believe? Who would have thought that the boyfriend she planned all evil with would end her life? Well, that’s her own part of the national cake of karma.

Sarah was found dead in her cell room with a writing carved on the wall; “I would rather die than to live my life in prison.” Turns out she poisoned herself. She probably couldn’t live with the guilt and self-hatred. At least she could strive for Jane’s forgiveness in heaven.

Mr. Emmanuel was killed by hanging as ordered by the court. That is probably what a devil like him deserves. With all the evil he did, he died with no regrets for killing his son. I am sure he would have lived to plan more evil if given the chance. Ahmad is still in the psychiatric hospital; it turns out he has lost his sanity. Guess that is what he gets for betrayal.

Amir and Austin are still serving their jail terms; they have probably regretted what they have done. I heard from Steve that he is appealing on behalf of them and they might probably be pardoned because I have forgiven them already. I am happy for Steve and Amir because their relationship is still growing even while Amir is in prison.

As for me, a lot of miracles have happened in my life but the best part of everything is that I still have the man I love by my side. Indeed, it is ALL FOR LOVE!!!
